UPDATE (Aug. 17, 2023): The planned signal work requiring overnight full traffic stops at Georgetown Pike and I-495 in McLean is cancelled for tonight (Thursday, Aug. 17) and tomorrow night (Friday, Aug. 18). An updated schedule of this work and traffic stops will be provided on Monday, Aug. 21.

FAIRFAX, VA – Four nights of intermittent traffic stoppages are scheduled to occur beginning Thursday, Aug.17 on the ramps connecting Georgetown Pike and I-495 South as well as at the intersection of Georgetown Pike and I-495 South for traffic signal work as part of the 495 NEXT project. These stoppages, which may be up to 30 minutes each, will occur between the hours of midnight and 5 a.m.

Stoppages are planned on the following nights:

• Thursday, Aug. 17
• Friday, Aug. 18
• Monday, Aug. 21
• Tuesday, Aug. 22
• Wednesday, Aug. 23 (backup date if work is delayed due to weather conditions)

Following each stoppage, the ramps and intersection will reopen to clear traffic before the next stoppage is implemented. Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution when traveling through the 495 NEXT work zone.

The I-495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project is extending the existing 495 Express Lanes from the Dulles Corridor interchange to the George Washington Memorial Parkway near the American Legion Bridge.
