Overnight Ramp Closures at Multiple I-66 Interchanges April 16-22 for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project
UPDATE (4/17/2023): The following ramp closures have been added to this week's schedule:
Tuesday night, April 18, through Sunday night, April 23Ramp from I-66 West to Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) North and South The ramp will be closed between midnight and 4 a.m. on multiple nights for paving and noise wall installation. Drivers will be directed to continue farther west, exit to Route 29 (Lee Highway) North Gainesville, stay to the left on the ramp and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 South, then stay to the right to I-66 East and follow signs to Route 234 Business. Note: This closure will not be implemented when the detour conflicts with other closures.
Thursday night, April 20: Midnight to 4 a.m.
Ramp from Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) North to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to continue farther north to White Granite Drive, stay to the left and make a U-turn onto Route 123 South, then follow signs to I-66 West.
FAIRFAX – Temporary ramp closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours at the following I-66 interchanges as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
Sunday, April 16, through Friday, April 21
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 29 (Lee Highway) North and South Centreville
The ramp will be closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. on multiple nights for paving and noise wall work. Traffic will be detoured prior to the closure to Route 28 South, then follow signs to Route 29 North or South. Note: This closure will not be implemented when the detour conflicts with other closures.
Sunday, April 16, through Saturday, April 22
Ramp from Route 29 North Centreville to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. on multiple nights for paving and drainage installation. Traffic will be directed to continue farther north to the intersection of Machen Road/Trinity Parkway. At the traffic signal drivers will use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn onto Route 29 South, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West.
Note: This closure will not be implemented when the detour conflicts with other closures.
Sunday, April 16, through Friday, April 21
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 North
Ramp from I-66 West to Braddock Road/Walney Road
The ramp will be closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. on multiple nights for paving. Traffic will be detoured to Route 28 South, to Route 29 North, stay to the right and follow signs to Route 28 North. Drivers headed to Braddock Road/Walney Road will then stay left and follow signs to that exit. Note: This closure will not be implemented when the detour conflicts with other closures.
Sunday, April 16, through Friday, April 21
Ramp from Braddock Road/Walney Road to Route 28 South
The ramp will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. on multiple nights for paving. Traffic will be directed to Westfields Boulevard to reach Route 28 South. Note: This closure will not be implemented when the detour conflicts with other closures.
Sunday, April 16, through Friday, April 21
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 South
The ramp will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. on multiple nights for paving and overhead bridge work. Traffic will be detoured farther west to Route 29 Centreville, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 North, then follow signs to Route 28 South. Note: This closure will not be implemented when the detour conflicts with other closures.
Sunday, April 16, through Friday, April 21
I-66 East C-D Lane at Route 286
Ramps from I-66 East to Route 286 North and South
The eastbound collector-distributor lane and the ramps will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for a traffic shift, guardrail installation, and paving. Traffic will be directed to continue farther east to Route 50 West, stay to the right to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 286 North or South. Note: This closure will not be implemented when the detour conflicts with other closures.
Friday night, April 21
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 286 South
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for guardrail installation. Traffic will be detoured prior to the closure to Route 286 North, stay to the right to exit to Fair Lakes Parkway/Monument Drive, turn left at the traffic signal onto Fair Lakes Parkway, then stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto the ramp to Route 286 South.
Sunday, April 16, through Friday, April 21
Ramps from Route 286 North and South to I-66 East
The ramps will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for striping and paving. Route 286 North traffic will be directed to continue north past I-66, exit to Route 50 East, travel about two miles to I-66 East. Route 286 South traffic will be directed to exit to Route 50 East prior to the closure, then follow signs to I-66 East. Note: This closure will not be implemented when the detour conflicts with other closures.
Sunday, April 16, through Friday, April 21
Ramps from Route 286 North and South to I-66 West
The ramps will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. on multiple nights for paving. Traffic from both directions of Route 286 will be directed to I-66 East, exit to Route 50 West, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West. Note: This closure will not be implemented when the detour conflicts with other closures.
Friday night, April 21
Ramp from Route 286 North to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for guardrail installation. Traffic will be directed to I-66 East, travel to Route 50 West, then stay to the right to I-66 West.
Monday night, April 17, and Tuesday night, April 18
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 50 East
The ramp will be closed both nights from midnight to 4 a.m. for barrier removal. Traffic will be detoured to Route 50 West, exit to Route 608 (West Ox Road) South, then stay to the right to Route 50 East.
Monday night, April 17, through Friday night, April 21
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 50 West
The ramp will be closed nightly from midnight to 4 a.m. for barrier work. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Route 286 South, stay to the right to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 50 West.
Wednesday night, April 19
Ramp from Route 50 West to Fair Oaks Mall
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for barrier removal. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Route 608 (West Ox Road) South, stay to the right to Route 50 East, then turn right at one of the two entrances to the Fair Oaks Mall property.
Thursday night, April 20, and Friday night, April 21
Ramp from Route 50 West to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed both nights from midnight to 4 a.m. for a concrete pour. Traffic will be directed farther west to Route 608 South, stay to the right to Route 50 East, then follow signs to I-66 East.
Monday night, April 17
Ramp from Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) South to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m. for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to I-66 West (prior to the closure), exit to Route 50 East, then stay left to I-66 East.
Monday, April 17, through Wednesday, April 19
Ramps from I-66 West to I-495 South and the 495 Express Lanes South
The ramps will be closed each night from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for inspection work. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Nutley Street, stay to the left on the ramp and turn left at the traffic signal onto Nutley Street South, stay right to I-66 East, then follow signs to I-495 South or the 495 Express Lanes South.
Wednesday night, April 19, and Thursday night, April 20
Ramp from I-495 South to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed both nights from midnight to 4 a.m. for overhead bridge inspection. Traffic will be detoured farther south to the exit to Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) East, stay to the right to Fairview Park, take the left fork to Fairview Park North, bear left at the traffic signal, stay to the right following signs to I-495 North and I-66, then follow signs to I-66 West.
