Overnight Ramp Closures at Multiple I-66 Interchanges Next Week for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project

FAIRFAX – Temporary ramp closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours next week at the I-66 interchanges at I-495, Nutley Street, Route 50, Route 28, Route 29 (Lee Highway) Centreville, and Route 234 (Prince William Parkway) for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project. 

Details include:

Monday, November 2
Ramp from I-66 East to Nutley Street North
The ramp will be closed Monday night, November 2, between midnight and 4 a.m. for utility work. Traffic will be detoured to Nutley Street South, stay to the left and continue to the traffic signal at Route 29 (Lee Highway), then make a U-turn from the left-most turn lane on to Nutley Street North.


Monday, November 2, through Friday, November 6
Ramp from 495 Express Lanes North to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed Monday night, November 2, through Friday night, November 6, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. for bridge work. Traffic will be directed to I-66 East, to Route 7 (Leesburg Pike), stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal, stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West.

Tuesday, November 3 
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North
Ramp from Route 29 South to Route 28 North 
The ramp from Route 29 South to Route 28 North will be closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. The ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North will be closed between 11:30 p.m. and 4 a.m. Both closures are needed for crews to implement a traffic pattern change on Route 28. Traffic on I-66 East heading to Route 28 North will be detoured farther east to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North, stay to the right following signs to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 28 North. Drivers on Route 29 South heading to I-66 East or Route 28 North will be detoured farther south, stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East; for those heading to Route 28 North, continue east and join the I-66 East to Route 28 North detour.

Tuesday, November 3, through Friday, November 6
Ramp from Route 50 East to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed Tuesday night, November 3, through Friday night, November 6, between midnight and 4 a.m. for overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to stay to the left and continue farther east to Waples Mill Road. At the traffic signal drivers will use the left-most left turn lane only to make a U-turn on to Route 50 West, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 East.

Friday, November 6, through Sunday, November 8
Ramp from I-66 East to Nutley Street South
The ramp will be closed Friday night, November 6, and Saturday night, November 7, from midnight to 5 a.m., and Sunday night, November 8, from midnight and 4 a.m. for paving work. Traffic will be detoured to Nutley Street North, continue to the intersection with Virginia Center Boulevard, stay to the left and make a U-turn from the left-most left turn lane at the traffic signal on to Nutley Street South.

Sunday, November 1, through Saturday, November 7
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 234 (Prince William Parkway South)
The ramp will be closed nightly Sunday, November 1, through Thursday, November 5, between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., and Friday, November 6, and Saturday, November 7, between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. for paving operations. Traffic will be directed to continue farther east to Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) South, turn right onto Balls Ford Road, and continue about two miles west to Route 234.

Friday, November 6
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 29
The ramp will be closed Friday night, November 6, between midnight and 5 a.m. Traffic will be directed to continue farther east to the exit for Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North, stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West, and then follow signs to Route 29.

Friday, November 6, through Sunday, November 8
Ramp from Route 28 South to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed Friday, November 6, through Sunday, November 8, between midnight and 4 a.m. nightly for crews to implement a traffic pattern change. Traffic will be directed to continue farther south to Route 29 South, then follow signs to I-66 West.

Message boards on I-66 are providing advance notice of lane closures and traffic stoppages. 

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
