POST-HOLIDAY WORK ZONES ON I-95 THIS WEEK NEAR FREDERICKSBURG
Expect overnight delays with lane and ramp closures starting tonight, July 8 through early Saturday, July 13
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Drivers should anticipate overnight lane closures on Interstate 95 northbound and southbound in the Fredericksburg area with numerous work zones scheduled this week starting tonight, July 8, through early Saturday, July 13.
In Spotsylvania County, the on-ramp to I-95 southbound from Route 3 eastbound will also be closed on the evening of Thursday, July 11, for guardrail repair.
There will be work zones for paving and road maintenance, and construction of the Improve95 projects. Crews will be paving a section on I-95 northbound near Exit 136/Centreport Parkway in Stafford County. Motorists should be alert for a temporary, rough travel surface in milled areas.
Weather permitting, the following lane closures are scheduled:
Interstate 95 Northbound
Ni River Bridge (Mile Marker 121)
- Tuesday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.
A single lane closure will be in place on I-95 northbound at mile marker 121 located between Exit 118/Thornburg and Exit 126/Spotsylvania. Crews will be repairing bridge joints on the I-95 bridge over the Ni River.
Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway)
- Monday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.
Crews will be paving on I-95 northbound between mile markers 135 – 137 near Exit 136/Centreport Parkway. One lane will be closed in the work zone at 9 p.m. followed by a double lane closure at 10 p.m. each night.
Interstate 95 Southbound
Aquia Creek Bridge (Mile Marker 145)
- Monday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.
A single lane will be closed on I-95 southbound at mile marker 145 located before Exit 143/Garrisonville. Crews will be repairing bridge joints on the I-95 bridge over Aquia Creek.
I-95 Southbound Traffic Shift near Truslow Road Overpass
On Thursday, July 11, all three lanes of I-95 southbound will be shifted slightly near the Truslow Road overpass. The Truslow Road overpass is located just north of Exit 133/Falmouth. New pavement markings and signs will be installed to guide motorists through the 1.25-mile lane shift. Drivers can expect the following lane closures prior to the shift to allow crews to remove the existing lane markings and install new, temporary lane markings between mile markers 135 to 132:
- Monday – Tuesday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m. – Single lane closure
- Wednesday, 9 p.m. – 10 a.m.
- 9 p.m. – Single lane closure
- 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – Two lanes closed
- Around midnight on Thursday, traffic lanes will be shifted, and motorists can expect to begin traveling in the new pattern early Thursday morning.
- 4:30 a.m. – 10 a.m. – Single lane closure
- Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – Single lane closure
- Friday, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. – Single lane closure
This work in connection with the Interstate 95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing
Exit 130 (Route 3) On-Ramp Closure
- Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.
The I-95 southbound on-ramp from Route 3 eastbound in Spotsylvania will be closed overnight to allow crews to repair guardrail. Drivers may either make a U-turn at Gateway Boulevard onto Route 3 westbound or travel to Route 1 southbound to merge at the Exit 126/Spotsylvania interchange.
Ni River Bridge (Mile Marker 121)
- Tuesday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.
A single lane closure will be in place on I-95 southbound at mile marker 121 located between Exit 118/Thornburg and Exit 126/Spotsylvania. Crews will be repairing bridge joints on the I-95 bridge over the Ni River.
Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control in work zones requiring double lane closures.
Message boards will warn drivers to stay alert for the work zones ahead and possible delays.
